Your expedition begins as you leave the green hills of Shimla behind and journey deep into the Himalayas along the historic Hindustan–Tibet Road. Travel through changing landscapes as dense pine forests gradually give way to rugged mountain terrain, deep valleys, and dramatic rock formations that define the Himalayan frontier. Drive past Narkanda, Rampur, Jeori, and Kinnaur while following the powerful Sutlej River, one of the region's most important lifelines. Along the way, witness breathtaking scenery and engineering marvels carved into steep mountainsides. As you continue toward the upper Himalayas, the landscape begins to transform into the distinctive terrain of the cold desert region, offering your first glimpse of the extraordinary world of Spiti. After spending time at the monastery and viewpoint, continue your journey into the remarkable Pin Valley National Park, a protected region famous for its unique cold desert ecosystem, traditional settlements, and extraordinary mountain scenery. Today's journey takes you through some of the Himalayas' most dramatic landscapes, where every mountain pass reveals another unforgettable view. Travel across the legendary Kunzum Pass, an important gateway connecting Spiti Valley with the Lahaul region. Following local tradition, many travelers pause here to seek blessings before continuing their journey through the mountains. By afternoon, arrive at the breathtaking Chandratal Lake, one of the most beautiful high-altitude lakes in the Indian Himalayas.
